The class will begin at 7:30pm and run for approximately an hour. If it’s your first session then its free to take part and then thereafter it’s £7.50 per class (£5 for students/concessions)

Come on down this Thursday evening for some live jazz with local guitarist and musical legend Rich Herdman. Rich will be joined, no doubt, by a talented collection of contemporaries to provide our guests with some top shelf jazz music. Expect the classics in some fresh new arrangements. This gig will be completely free to enter and we’ll have the ol’ Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors open at 6pm with the live music starting at 8pm.

Thu 4th: (Venue) POSTPONED We’re sorry to report that the previously advertised show, Tories! A Drag Castle Production has had to be postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. We’ll keep you updated on when the show has been rescheduled to once we find out. Anybody with ticket queries please contact Drag Castle themselves and they’ll be able to address any concerns


Fri 5th:
Presenting, this Friday evening, all-women cabaret trio Under the Wellie. A group that promises chansons and smoky jazz numbers fronted by their passionate and gifted singer, Magda! Under the Wellie will provide the perfect backdrop to your Friday evening, creating an intimate atmosphere for audiences. This gig will be completely free to enter and enjoy and we’ll get our Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors open at 6pm with the live music from 8pm.


Sat 6th:
Join us this Saturday night for some retro vaudeville jazz with some funky arrangements and associated chaos with local outfit Redwell. Made up of a bevvy of local jazz talent that includes Rich Herdman (guitar), Ray Johnson (Trumpet) and Jude Murphy (Double Bass and vocals). Expect some top quality jazz from top quality performers. This will be a free gig and we’ll have the famous Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors on the night open at 6pm with the live music from 8pm


Sun 7th:
Each month on the first Sunday of the month Prohibition Cabaret Bar brings you The Classic Cinema Club. Come on down and enjoy one of the big hits of the silver screen for free in our sophisticated screening room (the main bar with a projector setup). Showing this month: Double Idemnity: The 1944 hit starring Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwick. Entry is free and we’ll have cinema snacks on sale. Doors open at 2pm with the film showing from 3pm.

Live this evening at Prohibition Cabaret Bar our resident jazz pianist Merlin Roxby will be taking his place at the keys and treating our guests to a jazzy, saloon style performance. Playing vintage piano versions of well known songs, Merlin will provide the perfect backdrop to anyone enjoying a drink in our establishment this evening. This live entertainment is completely free to enjoy and we’ll have the jar on the bar out for any cash donations, all of which go straight to Merlin. Doors open at 6pm, live performance from 8pm.

Fri 12th: We’ve got a great deal of Prohibition style fun and entertainment in store for you this Friday night as we excitedly play host to Jenni Winter’s Sing Along Pian-Oke! Cabaret pianist Jenni Winter returns to the piano to tinkle the ivories while you, the people, will take to the stage and sing. In this monthly event, you’re invited to take your pick from our selection of songs (and even suggest a few for the next edition) grab a glass of Dutch courage and have fun on the Sapphire Stage with the mic in hand.  Entry is free and we’ll have our Jar on the Bar out for tips for our fantastic pianist. Doors open at 6pm with the fun kicking off at 8pm.


Sat 13th:
Live Rock and Roll and Swing music with phenomenal local guitarist Anth Purdy. An old friend of Prohibition Cabaret Bar, Anth always provides a top shelf performance of finger picking guitar music in the genres of Swing, Western Swing, Gypsy Jazz and Hawaiian/50s Surf Music, Rock and Roll and Rockin’ 50s Instrumentals. Anth’s roots lie in the golden era of the American music scene, and audiences are treated not just to the performance, but to musical history as well. Entry will be completely free with a Jar on the Bar for donations. Doors open at 6pm, sets from 8pm


Sun 14th: 3pm – 5pm
Introducing our new Sunday Crafternoon sessions – a chilled yet highly productive afternoon of tutored crafting. Each month will focus on a different discipline hosted by an expert in the craft. For the inaugural session this July we’re hosting a South Park Self Portraits Sculpture Workshop. Sculpt your very own self-portrait inspired by the iconic characters of South Park! Whether you’re a seasoned artist or just looking to try something new, this workshop is perfect for all skill levels. Our experienced instructor will guide you through the process step by step, ensuring that you leave with a unique and personalized sculpture that truly captures your essence. Tickets for the session cos £22+bf and can be purchased here – cost includes materials, use of specialist tools and tuition.

Sun 14th: ATTENTION: In a slight change of plan we have decided to stay closed this Sunday evening for the Euros Final – tonight the town belongs to the ever charming football crowd. Thu 18th:  We’ve got some live jazz standards, popular songs and showtunes from the Great American Songbook brought to us by local musicians Eva Fox & The Jazz Guys. Eva performs regularly with jazz legends Alan Law, Paul Grainger and Tim Johnston, so we’re bound to be treated to a top quality performance. This gig will be completely free to enjoy and we’ll have the Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors open at 6pm, live music from 8pm

Thu 18th: (Venue) Tonight at Prohibition Cabaret Bar! Our upstairs venue is playing host to the monthly networking event Together I’m Possible. Each month the team at Together arrange for two guest speakers to come along and share their stories, past experiences and unique outlooks on life allowing audience members to see things from a new perspective and learn something – be it a new positive attitude, an answer to something specific they’ve been looking for or simply how to be a better human. Tickets are sold on a “pay as you feel” donation basis. The doors to the bar open at 6pm and upstairs is open from 6.30pm. The first speaker is on from 7pm.


Fri 19th:
Roll up, roll up! It’s Burlesque night here at Prohibition, presented by the award winning House of Trixie Blue. This month we have in store for you all the more serious, classier show, The Burlesque Revue, where an incredibly talented and glamorous artist from the wonderful world of Burlesque comes along and teats us to a special guest performance. Tickets are just £3+bf and will be available to purchase from 10:30am on Saturday 22nd June. Follow the House of Trixie Blue Facebook page (linked above) to find ticket purchasing options. Fri 19th: (Venue) Hoodoo Blues presents their monthly open-to-all-experience-levels blues dance class and social. Hosted by some highly experienced dancing tutors, the Hoodoo Blues dance class aims to open up the world of blues dancing to any and all while sticking to the core themes of blues dancing – laid back, enjoyable, social and emotive. The class itself runs from 7:30pm – 8:30pm and is £10 to be a part of. From the end of the class at half past 8 the evening transitions smoothly into a dance social to put what you’ve learned into practice and to enjoy some Friday night blues music and dancing in a comfortable space. If you’re just in for the dancing social and not the class then it’s only £5 to enter. Runs until midnight.


Sat 20th:
Presenting The Northern Railroad Collective, a North East Americana, bluegrass and folk outfit. Inspired by the old timey music of the Appalachian and Americana setting, this five piece have performed at festivals and venues all across Tyneside and Northumberland and we’re thrilled to have them here at Prohibition for the first time – their music and our bar will go together like a little house on a prairie. This gig will be completely free and we’ll have the ol’ Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors open at 6pm with the live music starting from 8pm.


Sun 21st:
Attention, ladies and gentlemen! It’s the return of the phenomenal Showtunes and Wine! Hosted by the endlessly charismatic and musically gifted Carmen Silk, who will, as always, delight us with her belting vocals and wonderful stage presence. So come on down, grab yourself a glass of vino (or something else if wine isn’t your thing) and get ready to be entertained. Tickets are £5+bf and can be bought right here. Doors on the day will open at 5pm. Please Note this event requires a ticket to enter so for the duration of the show the main bar will not be open to the public, we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.


Wed 24th, Thu 25th and Fri 26th:
For the second year running we’re incredibly excited to be one of the host venues for The Newcastle Fringe Festival. The festival is back this summer with the very best of UK touring performing arts. From comedy to cabaret, theatre to family, music and more there is something for everyone in this vibrant and eclectic programme. Taking place over two weeks and in five venues, the festival comes to Prohibition on Wednesday 24th, Thursday 25th and Friday 26th. Please note for accessibility reasons the fringe festival will be taking place on our ground floor bar, so we’ll be using the upstairs venue as the “free entry, open to the public” space.

This Friday evening we’ve got some proper authentic rockabilly, roots and blues music from fantastic guitarist and vocalist Stuart Turner. Stuart takes inspiration from such artists as Chet Atkins, Merle Travis, Joni Mitchell, George Benson and many others and is a regular performer here at Prohibition, always treating our guests to a foot tapping, knee slapping good time. This gig will be completely free and we’ll have the ol’ Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors will open at 6pm with the live music from 8pm


Sat 27th:
Live this Saturday night we’re delighted to present The Mississippi Dreamboats. This well established outfit, frequenters of jazz festivals and clubs across the UK, are experts at hot club and New Orleans jazz. Made up of Gwyn Lewis (cornet), Liz Bacon (clarinet), Jim Blenkin (trombone), Sarah Thatcher (banjo and tenor guitar), Mike Kennedy (bass) and Paul Bacon (drums). This gig will be completely free to enjoy and we’ll have the ol’ Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors open at 6pm with the live music playing from 8pm.

Sat 27th: (Venue) Presenting a party for midsummer nights’ dreaming; it’s Oberon and Titania’s Disco Ball. A DJ led evening of glam rock, disco, funk and fabulous party bangers. Dress if inclined: sparkles, shimmer, glamour. This event is a “pay as you feel” affair, with a suggested donation of £5; everything collected above room hire cost goes to charity – head on over to this site here to book your place. Doors at 7pm.


Sun 28th:
Are ya’ ready for this! This Sunday come on down for the latest edition of The Jazz Jam Sandwich! Hosted by Rivkala and Mollie Nature, the jam sandwich will hit your ears and your souls on the last Sunday of every month here at Prohibition. It’s all about the freedom music brings us, whether you’re playing it or embracing it. Musicians are welcome, audience members are encouraged and all are loved so come along, grab a drink and take it in. There’s no charge for this baby and no reserved spots. Doors open at 6pm and the jam spreads from 7pm.

AUGUST LISTINGS

Thu 1st: It’s the first of the month so let’s kick off August in style with some hot, sultry, heartfelt jazz performed by the incredible Elsadie and the Bobcats. Covering hits from the likes of Peggy Lee, Ella Fitzgerald and many more, Elsadie’s silky smooth vocals will be backed expertly by her bobcats; Steve Chambers on keys and Jude Murphy on double bass. This fantastic evening of live music will be completely free to enjoy so come on down and soak it up – we’ll even have the famous Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors on the night open at 6pm with the live music kicking off at 8pm.

This Friday night we are delighted to be joined by classically trained singer Carmen Silk, a phenomenal local vocalist who will be treating us to an evening of Classics With Carmen. Delivering an intimate mix of jazz, swing, blues and showtunes, Carmen will take inspiration from artists such as Liza Minelli, Billie Holiday, Peggy Lee and much more. Come on down this Thursday evening for a live performance from acclaimed indie, alt. folk rock outfit – and old friends of Prohibition – Hadrian’s Union. Out on their August 2024 tour and celebrating the launch of their latest album, Splendiferous, the Union are treating us here in the 1920s to another cracking performance. This is one of our many free entry, all are welcome gigs and to support the artists we’ll have our Jar on the Bar out for your generous cash donations. This Sunday evening we’re playing host to some silky smooth jazz as local guitarist Lawrence Harrison takes to the stage. Backed up by an arrangement of his musician friends, Lawrence and co will treat our guests to the classics, providing the perfect backdrop to your Sunday evening drinking. There’s a distinct possibility that there’ll be a trumpet and some drums involved too. This gig will be completely free to enjoy and we’ll have the ol’ Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Come on down this Thursday evening to enjoy Newcastle-Upon-Tyne based jazz ensemble Side Café Orkestar. Playing Klezmer, Hot Club, Balkan and other eclectic melodies and songs on accordion, clarinet, flute, mandolin, guitar, fiddle, cello, trombone, bass and percussion (so pretty much everything). This tight outfit provide the perfect live music to sit back and enjoy or get up and dance to. Entry for this gig is free and we’ll have our Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors on the night open at 6pm with the live music from 8pm

Thu 15th: (Venue) Pay a visit to our upstairs venue this Thursday evening for a fantastic mix of music and culture with celebrated musician and writer Julie Grant. Having performed with the likes of Sinead O’Connor and Delores O’Riordan, there’s nothing artificial or contrived about Julie Grant. Julie is presenting an evening of music and musings with a curated selection of contemporaries: Peter Collard, Ann Porro, Jenni Pascoe, Steve Urwin, Lewis Brown and Ami Leigh. Entry for this gig is on a “pay as you feel” basis on the door making it as accessible as possible. Doors on the night open at 7pm


Fri 16th:
Roll up, roll up! It’s time for our monthly Burlesque extravaganza! Hosted by the award winning and endlessly charismatic sultana of seduction Trixie Blue. Joined by her phenomenal troupe of performers, The Sapphire Whiskers and a splash of talented guests, this month Trixie will bring you The Vaudeville Vault. It’s the August edition so, even while these delightful summer rains persist, Trixie and her team will bring the heat in their own fabulous way. This will be a ticketed event, with tickets going on sale at exactly 10:30am on Saturday 20th July. Fri 16th: (Venue) This Friday we’re delighted to bring you our monthly blues dance class and social with Hoodoo Blues. This is an open to all experience levels blues dancing class with a highly accomplished teacher. As with blues dancing itself the class is all about taking it easy, enjoying and expressing yourself and friendly socialising. After the class has finished the evening will transition smoothly into a blues dancing social event to put into practice what you’ve learnt. Doors open at 7pm with the class running from 7:30 to 8:30 and then the night continues until 12 midnight. Entry is £10 on the door for the class and the social or £5 for just the social.

Starring phenomenal local alternative drag artists Sweet Boy and SallyTM plus a whole host of fantastic performers, the fat drag slam showcases drag acts with a bit of extra artistic creativity, so check this bad boy out if you want to witness a proper show! Live this Saturday night we’re absolutely thrilled to welcome back one of the regions very best jazz performers, Rivkala. Fresh from recording the music video for her latest work, Chess, and launching a monthly jazz jam session here at Prohibition, Rivkala is stepping onto our stage this evening to bring us an intimate, heart-warming, soulful showcase of her vocal talents, backed by some super hot musicians. This top shelf gig will be completely free to enjoy and to support the live music we’ll have our Jar on the Bar out for your generous cash donations. Are ya’ ready for this! This Sunday come on down for the latest edition of The Jazz Jam Sandwich! Hosted by Rivkala and Mollie Nature, the jam sandwich will hit your ears and your souls on the last Sunday of every month here at Prohibition. It’s all about the freedom music brings us, whether you’re playing it or embracing it. Musicians are welcome, audience members are encouraged and all are loved so come along, grab a drink and take it in. There’s no charge for this baby and no reserved spots. Doors open at 6pm and the jam spreads from 7pm.


Wed 28th:
It’s our Weekly Pub Quiz! Join our quizmaster, Danny ‘Eyeballs’ for four rounds of brain exercise. Come top of the pile and win actual cash money! Fall just short and come in second to win a boozy treat, or failing all that, come rock bottom to earn delicious biscuits for the whole team. £1 entry per person, teams of up to 6 people, quiz starts at 8:30pm


Thu 29th:
Some proper live jazz this Thursday evening from local musical legend Paul Grainger. Paul will be bringing out a hot new collaboration between himself on his trusty double bass and a mysterious singer yet to be announced. Audiences will be treated to some jazz classics, a bit of folk and some original work too so it’s guaranteed to be live music of the highest order. Entry for the gig will be completely free and we’ll have the famous Jar on the Bar out for your generous cash donations. Doors open at 6pm with the live music from 8pm


Fri 30th:
This Friday evening we’ve got some proper authentic rockabilly, roots and blues music from fantastic guitarist and vocalist Stuart Turner. Stuart takes inspiration from such artists as Chet Atkins, Merle Travis, Joni Mitchell, George Benson and many others and is a regular performer here at Prohibition, always treating our guests to a foot tapping, knee slapping good time. This gig will be completely free and we’ll have the ol’ Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors will open at 6pm with the live music from 8pm


Sat 31st:
This Saturday night we’re delighted to welcome back to our stage local jazz duo Mostly Moonlight. With Helen Barber on vocals and Alex Moon on keys, this smooth, dreamy jazz duo will be bringing us a fantastic Sunday night set in the style of Ella Fitzgerald and her amazing contemporaries. This gig will be completely free and we’ll get our Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors open at 6pm and the live music will kick off at 8pm.

Sat 31st: (Venue) Prepare yourselves for an evening of music and humour as Northumberland born singer and entertainer Lewis Denny brings his live show to Newcastle, right here in Prohibition. Lewis will have your toes tapping and you will soon be singing along and dancing to his songs in an unmissable show. Tickets cost £20+bf with full information and sales available here. Doors on the night open at 7pm with the show starting at 8pm
