Sat 1st: Come on down this Saturday night for some authentic roots music from The Rockin’ Turner Brothers. Brothers Stuart and Peter Turner perform early country, Western swing and a bit of 50s rockabilly, taking their influences from guitar pickers like like Chet Atkins, Merle Travis, Jimmy Bryant, Grady Martin and Scotty Moore. Performing on upright double bass and semi acoustic electric guitar, these two always put on a show that’s not to be missed. Enjoy the gig free of charge, just come along and grab a space, and if you like what you hear (you will) you can show your appreciation by dropping some cash in the Jar on the Bar. Doors open at 6pm, live music from 8pm.

Thu 6th: This Thursday evening we’re delighted to welcome back to our stage local jazz duo Mostly Moonlight. With Helen Barber on vocals and Alex Moon on keys, this smooth, dreamy jazz duo will be bringing us a fantastic evening of live music in the style of Ella Fitzgerald and her amazing contemporaries. This gig will be completely free and we’ll get our Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. The live music will kick off at 8pm.
Thu 6th: (Venue) Tonight at Prohibition Cabaret Bar! Our upstairs venue is playing host to the monthly networking event Together I’m Possible. Each month the team at Together arrange for two guest speakers to come along and share their stories, past experiences and unique outlooks on life allowing audience members to see things from a new perspective and learn something – be it a new positive attitude, an answer to something specific they’ve been looking for or simply how to be a better human. Tickets are sold on a “pay as you feel” donation basis, suggested donation £5, and can be found following their Facebook page, linked above. The doors to the bar open at 6pm and upstairs is open from 6.30pm. The first speaker is on from 7pm.
Fri 7th: Live this Friday evening we’ve got a throwback to the old glory days of the Jazz Café as we welcome to our stage a foursome of jazz musicians who have been performing here since the Crombie years; The John Rowland Quartet. With John Rowland on tenor sax, Paul Grainger on double bass, Alan Law on keys and an as yet unnamed drummer on drums, this night’s gig is guaranteed to be top shelf. Fri 7th: (Venue) Returning to our upstairs theatre, it’s local drag superstar Phoebe La Reine with the latest edition of her show Chanter. Newcastle’s queerest live vocal cabaret show is back and the roster is tip top notch! We’ve got Newcastle’s sweetheart, Miss Gloria Love, Prohibition regular and good friend, Carmen Silk, and up and coming musical theatre drag star Mx Boob Ross, as well, of course, as your fabulous host, Phoebe La Reine herself. Sat 8th: Live Rock and Roll and Swing music with phenomenal local guitarist Anth Purdy. An old friend of Prohibition Cabaret Bar, Anth always provides a top shelf performance of finger picking guitar music in the genres of Swing, Western Swing, Gypsy Jazz and Hawaiian/50s Surf Music, Rock and Roll and Rockin’ 50s Instrumentals. Anth’s roots lie in the golden era of the American music scene, and audiences are treated not just to the performance, but to musical history as well. Entry will be completely free with a Jar on the Bar for donations. Doors open at 6pm, sets from 8pm

Having spent some time busking around the North East and performing in various venues around South Shields, the duo are taking their music to the city centre including a gig in our bar. Performing hits from the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Amy Winehouse, White Stripes, Chris Isaac and more the duo will provide a fantastic, chilled out evening of soulful live music. Fri 14th: We’ve got a great deal of Prohibition style fun and entertainment in store for you this Friday night as we excitedly play host to Jenni Winter’s Sing Along Pian-Oke! Cabaret pianist Jenni Winter returns to the piano to tinkle the ivories while you, the people, will take to the stage and sing. In this monthly event, you’re invited to take your pick from our selection of songs (and even suggest a few for the next edition) grab a glass of Dutch courage and have fun on the Sapphire Stage with the mic in hand. This February, to celebrate the annual MOBO awards taking place here in Newcastle, we’re playing particular homage to some of the best loved black artists through history, legends of the genre like Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Ray Charles and many more. Entry is free and we’ll have our Jar on the Bar out for tips for our fantastic pianist. Doors open at 6pm with the fun kicking off at 8pm.
Sat 15th: This Saturday we’re thrilled to host an evening of live jazz with North East based group, The Milne Glendinning Band. This long established group regularly treat our audiences to an evening of smooth jazz fused with alternative folk and soul. A powerful trio of talented musicians, Debra Milne on vocals, Steve Glendinning on guitar and Michael Clark on bass will be providing original contemporary music with smart lyrics & jazz infused melodic grooves. Sun 16th: Live this Sunday evening we’ve got some live acoustic jazz classics and hits with a contemporary twist as two phenomenal local musicians take to our stage; it’s The Shayo Experiment, with guitarist Liam Oliver and, of course, singer Shayo. Both of these artists are regular performers here and this Sunday, as part of our continuing celebration of the locally hosted MOBO awards, we’re delighted to present their collaboration. It’ll be fresh yet familiar, packed with soul and class. Entry for this gig will be completely free and we’ll have the famous Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Thu 20th: Come on in for a live performance this Thursday evening from Theo Cubitt. Theo performs a mix of folk, country and blues acoustically on guitar and vocals and has spent his years playing live with a band and as a solo act. He comes to us this Thursday evening with an intimate one man show playing a traditional style of music. This gig is completely free to enter and enjoy and we’ll have the ol’ Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors on the night open at 6pm with the live music kicking off at 8pm.
Fri 21st: Roll up, roll up! It’s the return of our monthly Burlesque show! Kicking off the 2025 calendar of dazzling performances by the award winning and simply magnificent Trixie Blue and her troupe of talented dancers and entertainers. Presenting Vaudeville Vault; starring The Sapphire Whiskers along with some special guest performers. With it being February, the month of St Valentine, there may well be a romantic, perhaps even erotic edge to the show, so you know it’ll be a good one. Tickets are available for just £3+bf and can be purchased here. Doors on the night open at 7pm with the show starting at 8pm. Fri 21st: (Venue) Hoodoo Blues presents their monthly open-to-all-experience-levels blues dance class and social. Hosted by some highly experienced dancing tutors, the Hoodoo Blues dance class aims to open up the world of blues dancing to any and all while sticking to the core themes of blues dancing – laid back, enjoyable, social and emotive. The class itself runs from 7:30pm – 8:30pm and is £10 to be a part of. From the end of the class at half past 8 the evening transitions smoothly into a dance social to put what you’ve learned into practice and to enjoy some Friday night blues music and dancing in a comfortable space. If you’re just in for the dancing social and not the class then it’s only £5 to enter. Runs until midnight.
Sat 22nd: This Saturday evening we’ve got some fantastic live solo acoustic fingerpicking ragtime bottleneck and blues guitar with local guitarist Michael Woods. A regular performer here at Prohibition, always treating our guests to a fantastic night of live music, Michael will be back doing his thing, playing some classic tunes on guitar and vocals and generally entertaining the room. Sun 23rd: Are ya’ ready for this! This Sunday come on down for the latest edition of The Jazz Jam Sandwich! Hosted by Rivkala, Mollie Nature and Liam Oliver, the jam sandwich will hit your ears and your souls on the last Sunday of every month here at Prohibition. It’s all about the freedom music brings us, whether you’re playing it or embracing it. Musicians are welcome, audience members are encouraged and all are loved so come along, grab a drink and take it in. There’s no charge for this baby and no reserved spots. Doors open at 6pm and the jam spreads from 7pm.

Fri 28th: (Venue) Introducing Platform 22! A live music showcase where a trio of local artists perform their own works, after which the live audience can vote for their favourite with the winning artist getting funds to go towards their music career. This fantastic event is brought to us by Marisam Events a female led events company celebrating the endeavours of local musicians and creatives. Long time performer here at Prohibition Jack Logan is teaming up with Jay to bring you two singers for the price of one. Singing the hits of the 40s, 50s and 60s, expect some Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Sammy Davis, Dean Martin and all the others. Sat 1st: (Venue) Get those dancing shoes ready, it’s the latest edition of Club 30-80! A DJ led disco night for over 30s who love to go out and have a boogie on a Saturday night but would rather avoid the youth oriented club scene. With a request system in place you can come on down and dance to the tunes you want to hear. This March Club 30-80 is off out again – celebrating their first event of 2025. He is a nationally acclaimed slide guitarist and cites Elmore James, R.L. Burnside and Mississippi Fred McDowell amongst his major influences. No Howlin‘ Mat show would be complete without his trademark cigar box guitar. Howlin‘ Mat is also a skilled story teller intertwining tales of life on the road with his music to create an intimate and unique experience for each audience. If you fancy making and owning your own fully working guitar from a cigar box and other materials, well this is your chance. You get all the materials needed and full tutoring, plus plenty of information and insight into the history of the instrument and the music it’s part of. Thu 20th: Hear ye! Hear ye! A momentous occasion is upon us as local royalty, HRH The Queen of Pink Lane returns to our stage with Bunty’s Big Mouth! That’s right, superstar and feminine icon Miss Bunty Del Mar graces our halls once again to treat eager audiences to a night of shocking tales, scandal and revelations. Plus there’ll even be a bit of old tat donated by good friend and former Prohibition performer, Lew Stoole. This exclusive event will be free to enter and we’ll have the famous tips jar out for your generous donations, all money going towards new fabulous frocks. From the end of the class at half past 8 the evening transitions smoothly into a dance social to put what you’ve learned into practice and to enjoy some Friday night blues music and dancing in a comfortable space. If you’re just in for the dancing social and not the class then it’s only £5 to enter. Runs until midnight
Sat 22nd: Performing here at Prohibition once again, phenomenal jazz singer, musician and songwriter Rivkala. After a hugely successful 2024 for Riv, complete with hit singles and music video launches, we’re thrilled to welcome her back to the stage to treat our guests to a top shelf night of smooth jazz. With a voice compared to Amy Winehouse and a captivating style all of her own, Riv will be performing her own material mixed with some popular hits, supported on keys by one of the many outstanding local jazz musicians. This gig will be completely free to enjoy and we’ll get the ol’ Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors at 6pm, live music from 8pm.
Sun 23rd: Attention, ladies and gentlemen! It’s the return of the phenomenal Showtunes and Wine! Hosted by the endlessly charismatic and musically gifted Carmen Silk, who will, as always, delight us with her belting vocals and wonderful stage presence. So come on down, grab yourself a glass of vino (or something else if wine isn’t your thing) and get ready to be entertained. Tickets are £5+bf and can be bought right here. Doors on the day will open at 5pm. Wed 26th: It’s our Weekly Pub Quiz! Join our quizmaster, Danny ‘Eyeballs’ for four rounds of brain exercise. Come top of the pile and win actual cash money! Fall just short and come in second to win a boozy treat, or failing all that, come rock bottom to earn delicious biscuits for the whole team. £1 entry per person, teams of up to 6 people, quiz starts at 8:30pm
Wed 26th: (Venue) It’s our weekly blues dance class, hosted by the fantastic Hoodoo Blues. Come alone or with a partner and learn from expert tutor Melissa Davy all about the art of blues dancing. Like the music itself, blues dancing is all about expression and takin’ it easy. All experience levels welcome and the class is drop in, drop out, so don’t ever worry if you’ve not been to one before, you will be well looked after. The class will begin at 7:30pm and run for approximately an hour. If it’s your first session then its free to take part and then thereafter it’s £7.50 per class (£5 for students/concessions)
Thu 27th: This Thursday evening we’re delighted to host a fantastic event in our public bar with the fantastic team at Generator! This local arts initiative work to create, develop and maintain a sustainable music industry in the North East that ensures success for all. Here at Prohibition, Generator are putting on a monthly drop-in networking and support event for up-and-coming musicians starting out in the industry or looking for new inspiration and opportunities. It’s completely free to enter and will showcase guest speakers as well as opportunities to mingle and make connections. Doors open at 6pm with the event running through to 9pm. Please Note this event is open in the main ground floor bar and is only open as a drop-in session to musicians rather than the general public – we apologise for any inconvenience caused
Fri 28th: This Friday evening we’re delighted to welcome back to our stage local jazz duo Mostly Moonlight. With Helen Barber on vocals and Alex Moon on keys, this smooth, dreamy jazz duo will be bringing us a fantastic evening of live music in the style of Ella Fitzgerald and her amazing contemporaries. This gig will be completely free and we’ll get our Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors on the night open at 6pm with the live music kicking off at 8pm
Sat 29th: Live this Saturday night we’re thrilled to welcome back local organ jazz trio Squabble! Celebrating the classic sound of the traditional Hammond organ, this outfit base their repertoire around the fantastic instrument. With Sid White on drums, Jude Murphy on double bass and Steve Chambers on the headlining organ, this will be a proper gig of classic jazz from some of the regions finest musicians. Entry for the gig is completely free and we’ll have the ol’ Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors on the night open at 6pm with the live music kicking off at 8pm
Sun 30th: 2pm-5pm Come one, come all to a proper old school afternoon of sophistication and entertainment as vintage singer and dancer Hildy Harland presents this year’s Mother’s Day special edition of The Temperance Tea Party. Enjoy a delicious handmade afternoon tea while you sit back and take in a delightful show full of singing, dancing and comedy. Tickets start at just £8 for entry only, £22 for the show and the full afternoon tea and £25 for the show, the afternoon tea plus a glass of prosecco on arrival – booking fee applies to all of those ticket options and they can all be purchased here. Vegan and gluten free options are available for the food. Doors on the day will open at 2pm with the show starting at 2:30pm
Sun 30th: Are ya’ ready for this! This Sunday come on down for the latest edition of The Jazz Jam Sandwich! Hosted by Rivkala, Mollie Nature and Liam Oliver, the jam sandwich will hit your ears and your souls on the last Sunday of every month here at Prohibition. It’s all about the freedom music brings us, whether you’re playing it or embracing it. Musicians are welcome, audience members are encouraged and all are loved so come along, grab a drink and take it in. There’s no charge for this baby and no reserved spots. Doors open at 6pm and the jam spreads from 7pm
