PROHIBITION FUND – KEEP OUR NAME IN LIGHTS!

While we are still here to tell our story, it hasn’t all been a bed of roses. The effects of Brexit, Covid, Cost of Living and Energy/Fuel Crisis have all left scars. During the summer of 2022 Prohibition sadly came very, very close to closing our doors for good. Like so many others in the industry we have muddled through and stayed the course to brighter days, but to say we have struggled would be quite an understatement. With the ongoing support of our wonderful friends and customers we were able to stay afloat, but only just. We’re still pretty deep but we’re sporting some snazzy armbands at least!

To help us raise funds we decided to offer something in return for donations. To help keep our name in lights we asked you to pledge to put your names in lights instead, and you did! We offered to name a lightbulb from our original illuminated sign (below) in your honour (or in the name of someone as a gift or in their memory or a charity, etc). There are 88 lightbulbs in our sign and we’ve so far taken donations for well over 50 of them!

If you would like to sponsor a lightbulb we ask for just £25 minimum donation and the name in which you wish the bulb to be honoured and that’s that! Send donations to:

PayPal.me/mitch78 as a ‘Friends or Family’ payment marked as ‘Lightbulb Fund’ and stating the name you wish to have listed (on our roll of honour) in the message box.

Once all 88 bulbs have sponsors we will rewire the sign and get it hung up in our venue for all to see!

Prohibition Cabaret Bar started life in the original premises over in Gateshead, just off the iconic Tyne Bridge. Since then our beautiful original illuminated sign (above) has lay in the dark in our Pink Lane premises attic as we were unable to install it to the front of the new premises as we are within a conservation area. We didn’t want to never see it lit up again but to have it up indoors would produce a brightness akin to sitting in front of the sun! So we need to rewire it to take lower wattage bulbs. One rewired and rebulbed it will be hung up in the venue.
