Fri 1st: It’s the first Friday of the month and that means it’s our dedicated live blues music night, brought to you by The Blind Pig Blues Club. Showcasing the best in blues music talent from the North East, the guys at Blind Pig always put on a proper show for us. The gig is completely free and you can offer generous cash donations in our famous Jar on the Bar. Doors on the night open at 6pm with the live music starting at 8pm.


Sat 2nd:
Live this Saturday night, we’ve got some chilled jazz for you all performed by London based guitarist Tom Remon and local guitarist Laurence Harrison. Serving up some jazz standards and original works on dual guitars, these two talented musicians will provide the perfect backdrop to your Saturday night drinking here at Prohibition. This gig will be completely free to enjoy and we’ll get our Jar on the Bar out for your generous cash donations. Doors open at 6pm, live music at 8pm.

Sat 2nd (Upper Venue): It’s Club 30-80’s first outing of 2024, and it’s expected to be a good one! Dust off your boogie shoes and get dancing to the music you want to hear. The guys at Club 30-80 put on a regular DJ disco night for those who still want to get out and dance, but would rather avoid the manic club scene. As usual we’ll be spinning tunes aplenty, spanning ages and genres all evening. Tickets are £7+bf and can be purchased here. The event on the night starts at 7pm continuing until 11pm.


Sun 3rd: 2pm – 6pm
It’s back! We’re delighted to announce the return of our monthly Classic Cinema Club, a FREE afternoon classic film on the first Sunday of every month. Doors open at 2pm, film starts 3pm. Popcorn, ice cream, teas, coffees and snacks all available as well as our usual well stocked bar. For this, our first screening, we will be treating you to one of THE biggest classics of all time, Casablanca! First come, first served so be sure to arrive in good time for a good view of the screen!

Sun 3rd: This Sunday evening we’re delighted to introduce to our stage for their debut gig here at Prohibition, local jazz duo Mostly Moonlight. With Helen Barber on vocals and Alex Moon on keys, this smooth, dreamy jazz duo will be bringing us a fantastic Sunday night set in the style of Ella Fitzgerald and her amazing contemporaries. This gig will be completely free and we’ll get our Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors on the night open at 6pm with the live music from 7pm.

Come alone or with a partner and learn from expert tutor Melissa Davy all about the art of blues dancing. Like the music itself, blues dancing is all about expression and takin’ it easy. All experience levels welcome and the class is drop in, drop out, so don’t ever worry if you’ve not been to one before, you will be well looked after. The class will begin at 7:30pm and run for approximately an hour. If it’s your first session then its free to take part and then thereafter it’s £7.50 per class (£5 for students/concessions)

Live this evening at Prohibition Cabaret Bar our resident jazz pianist Merlin Roxby will be taking his place at the keys and treating our guests to a jazzy, saloon style performance. Playing vintage piano versions of well known songs, Merlin will provide the perfect backdrop to anyone enjoying a drink in our establishment this evening. This live entertainment is completely free to enjoy and we’ll have the jar on the bar out for any cash donations, all of which go straight to Merlin. Doors open at 6pm, live performance from 8pm.

Thu 7th (Upper Venue): *SOLD OUT* This Thursday we’re thrilled to host an evening of stories and folklore as Graeme Cook, host of the Tales of Britain and Ireland podcast, presents Murderous Monsters. Come along and listen to some folktales featuring mermaids, kelpies, giants and worst of all… men! All stories are drawn from British and Irish folklore and are told with humour, wandering asides and above all else a great love for the stories. Doors open at 7pm with the stories starting at 7:20pm.


Fri 8th:
Come on down to Prohibition this Friday night for some proper festive fun and entertainment as we present Sing-Along Pian-oke! It’s our authentic take on the whole karaoke craze. With cabaret pianist Jenni Winter at the keys and you, the people, with the mic, pick from a selection of showtunes, musical hits and Disney bangers, get on stage and give it a go! All music is played (and sung) live on the night. Entry is completely free so come on down, get a glass of the old Dutch courage and join in the fun. We’ll have the Jar on the Bar out for your generous cash donations (everything goes to the incredible pianist). Doors open at 6pm and the fun kicks off at 8pm.


Sat 9th:
This Saturday evening we’re delighted to welcome back to our stage, local singer, songwriter and guitarist Lesley RoleyFollowing on from a successful album launch last year, Lesley is right back into the swing of things and gigging through 2024, including a stop here at Prohibition. Lesley writes highly melodic songs that mix elements of folk, pop and blues, and her heart-warming vocals always win over audiences. There’s no entry fee for this gig but we’ll have the ol’ Jar on the Bar out for “pay as you feel” cash donations. Doors open at 6pm with the live performance from 8pm


Sun 10th: 2pm – 5pm
Join us this Mother’s Day afternoon for Hildy Harland’s Temperance Tea Party and Vintage Cabaret. Treat yourself and your mother (optional) to a classy afternoon of cakes, sandwiches, tea and live entertainment. Hildy will provide the lively, cheeky tunes while you enjoy the food. Plus there’ll be raffles and prizes, so plenty to enjoy! Tickets come in the form of entry to the cabaret only for £8, full afternoon tea and cabaret for £22 and full afternoon tea, cabaret and a glass of prosecco on arrival for £25 (all prices are before booking fee is applied). Vegan and gluten free options are also available for the food and prosecco. Tickets can be purchased here. Doors on the day open at 2pm with the event going until 5pm.

We’re absolutely delighted to host some super hot, 1930s style swing this Thursday evening brought to us by international collaboration, The Spicy L’il Devils. With origins from Scotland, France and Colombia, this spicy trio are on tour of the UK celebrating their ‘No Regrets’ album launch, including a stop here in our humble bar. Come on down, get yourself a drink and enjoy as the Devils swing some hot 30s vibes atcha! This gig will be free to enter and we’ll get the Jar on the Bar out for pay as you feel cash donations. Doors open at 6pm with the show starting at 8pm.


Fri 15th:
Roll up, roll up, it’s that most exciting night of the month here at Prohibition Cabaret Bar – Burlesque Night! Hosted by the award winning Trixie Blue, the Empress of all things Burlesque in the North East of England and internationally renowned as a Sapphire Seductress. This month we’re thrilled to bring you The Burlesque Revue, showcasing the amazing talents of a guest performer from the world of burlesque – guest performer to be announced. Tickets sell out fast! They will go on sale at exactly 10:30am on Saturday 17th February 2024 and can be found through the House of Trixie Blue Facebook page linked above. Doors on the night open at 7pm. Entry to this event is permitted to those with tickets only.

Fri 15th (Upper Venue): This Friday we’re delighted to bring you our monthly blues dance class and social with Hoodoo Blues. This is an open to all experience levels blues dancing class with a highly accomplished teacher. As with blues dancing itself the class is all about taking it easy, enjoying and expressing yourself and friendly socialising. After the class has finished the evening will transition smoothly into a blues dancing social event to put into practice what you’ve learnt. Doors open at 7pm with the class running from 7:30 to 8:30 and then the night continues until 12 midnight. Entry is £10 on the door for the class and the social or £5 for just the social.


Sat 16th:
Live this Saturday night we joyfully present to you all Side Café Orkestar. Hailing from here in the North East, Side Café Orkestar perform hotclub jazz, klezmer and Baltic folk on accordion, clarinet, flute, mandolin, guitar, fiddle, cello, trombone, bass and percussion. They’ll provide audiences with the perfect musical backdrop to their Saturday night revels or perhaps inspire a dance or two. This gig will be completely free to enter and we’ll have the Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors open at 6pm with the live music from 8pm

Thu 21st (Upper Venue): Tonight at Prohibition Cabaret Bar! Our upstairs venue is playing host to the monthly networking event Together I’m Possible. Each month the team at Together arrange for two guest speakers to come along and share their stories, past experiences and unique outlooks on life allowing audience members to see things from a new perspective and learn something – be it a new positive attitude, an answer to something specific they’ve been looking for or simply how to be a better human. Tickets are sold on a “pay as you feel” donation basis. The doors to the bar open at 6pm and upstairs is open from 6.30pm. The first speaker is on from 7pm.


Fri 22nd:
This Friday evening we’ve got some live jazz for you all, with an exciting collaboration between some of the region’s top musicians – we’re delighted to welcome Redwell to our stage. Featuring Ray Johnson – trumpet, flugelhorn and vocals, Rich Herdman – guitar and arrangements and Jude Murphy – double bass and vocals, Redwell will bring a fresh mix of lesser known hard bop tunes and Richard’s own arrangements of some tunes from the pop scene. It’ll be lively, toe tapping and great fun. The gig will be completely free to enter and we’ll get the ol’ Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors open at 6pm, live music from 8pm.

Fri 22nd (Upper Venue): Join Lion NCL upstairs at Prohibition for a 90s Indie Disco. Featuring all the key genres of the 90s indie landscape, there will be some Britpop from Blur, Oasis and Pulp, grunge and rock from Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead and Placebo, baggy from The Stone Roses and The Charlatans and cross over dance from The Prodigy, Daft Punk and The Chemical Brothers, with plenty more from other key artists of the decade. Tickets are just £5+bf and can be purchased here. The event starts on the night at 8pm going on until midnight.


Sat 23rd:
Live this Saturday night we’re delighted to welcome back to our stage Pete Tanton’s Cuba Libre! A fantastical fusion of cuban salsa, son and mambo from four of the region’s finest musicians in a brand new outfit: Pete Tanton (trumpet, percussion and vocals), Carlos Rivera (congas/percussion and vocals), Alan Law (piano), and Paul Grainger (bass). This gig will be completely free to enjoy with a Jar on the Bar for cash donations. Doors at 6pm, live music from 8pm.

Sat 23rd (Upper Venue): Dust off your neon colours and shoulder pads, this Saturday night Grindhouse Events presents It’s The 80s! A DJ led dance event all about the incredible pop music of the 1980s. Expect some Madonna, Wham, Erasure, A-Ha, Duran Duran, Pet Shop Boys, David Bowie and much much more. This event kicks off at 8pm and goes on until midnight and it’s just £5 in cash on the door


Sun 24th:
This Sunday evening we have a special performance by some of the region’s top jazz talent; Tom Waits For No Man – a set of sensitive and compelling reimagining’s of the music of Tom Waits. Vocalist and composer Lindsay Hannon has chosen and re-arranged a selection of songs from the legendary Tom Waits’ decades spanning back catalogue. From the tender nostalgia of ‘Martha’, the gospel infused ‘Picture in a frame’ and the variously, dark, comedic and lewd content of such numbers as ‘Pasties and a G-string’ and ‘Christmas card from a hooker in Minneapolis’. This gig will be completely free to enter and we’ll have our Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors on the night open at 6pm and the live music starts at 7pm.

This Thursday evening we’re well pleased to bring you some live jazz with The Richard Herdman Quartet. Featuring one of the finest jazz guitarists of the North East and accompanied by some of his hugely talented and practiced contemporaries, this outfit will bring to the stage some classics and standards as well as some fantastic arrangements of well known songs. It’ll be a very chilled Sunday evening here at Prohibition. This gig will be completely free to enjoy with our Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors open at 6pm with the live music from 8pm.


Fri 29th:
This Friday night we’re delighted to welcome back to our stage singer and entertainer John Logan. Backed by his fantastic band, John will treat audiences to an evening of Ratpack, Motown, jazz and swing with his phenomenal vocals and stage presence. Grab a drink, sit back and be entertained by John and his musicians. There’ll be no entry fee for this gig and we’ll have the Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors on the night open at 6pm with the live music from 8pm


Sat 30th:
This Saturday night we’re thrilled to host an eccentric collaboration between some of the region’s best jazz talents, tentatively named Papa G’s Troves. Featuring the likes of Papa G, Steve Chambers, Hal Lockwood, Jude Murphy and Waldemar Brankiewicz and with the ever present possibility of guest performers joining in. Expect some authentic jazz classics with a gospelly twinge. This gig will be completely free to enjoy and we’ll have the Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors on the night open at 6pm with the live music from 8pm

Sat 30th (Upper Venue): We’ve got some live comedy cabaret for you all, brought to us by local music and comedy troupe, Oxi-Morons Theatre Company. Their latest production, “Bottoms Up” is set to be a rude, crude but most importantly honest and hilarious extravaganza. With Gram Cummings on vocals and Malcom Moffat on piano, Bottoms Up guides you through the real life struggles, triumphs and general life of its stars in a funny yet thoughtful way. Entry on the night will be £10 pay on the door which opens at 7pm.


Sun 31st:
This Sunday evening we’ve got a fantastic performance in store for our guests as we welcome American jazz guitarist Sid Jacobs and London guitarist Tom Remon to our stage. The two are on a tour of the UK this March and are making a stop here. They’ll be treating us to some jazz classics with a genuine global authenticity. Sid picked up his love of jazz guitar from his roots in Miami and Las Vegas and has taught Bebop and Jazz Guitar in musical institutes all across America. Tom, born and raised in North London, is an alumni of the artist development programme Tomorrow’s Warriors and has celebrated the launch of three albums. This gig will be free to enter and we’ll have a Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors open at 6pm with the live music from 7pm.

Thu 11th:
This Thursday evening we have a fantastic gig in store for you all as UK based traditional country singer-songwriter Ags Connolly. Ags has developed a big following in the UK, USA, The Netherlands, Sweden and more and now he’s touring the country celebrating the launch of his fourth studio album, Siempre. The album keeps his trademark honky-tonk sound but merges it with Tejano music and barroom waltzes and has been widely acclaimed since it’s release last year. We’re absolutely delighted Ags is making a stop off here at Prohibition and we know it’ll be a great show. Entry will be completely free and we’ll have our Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors open at 6pm and the gig starts at 8pm


Fri 12th:
This Friday night we’ve got some outstanding live jazz in store for you all as we welcome back to our stage, The Katrina Miller Trio. After a highly successful debut gig in January, this fresh young outfit, recently graduated from Newcastle University, formed a jazz trio from their combined love of authentic, classic jazz. They infuse old school jazz with a contemporary twist, bringing the standards into a new generation. This gig will be completely free to enjoy and we’ll get the ol’ Jar on the Bar out for your generous cash donations. Doors on the night open at 6pm, live music kicks off at 8pm.


Sat 13th:
Come on down this Saturday night for some authentic roots music from The Rockin’ Turner Brothers. Brothers Stuart and Peter Turner perform early country, Western swing and a bit of 50s rockabilly, taking their influences from guitar pickers like  like Chet Atkins, Merle Travis, Jimmy Bryant, Grady Martin and Scotty Moore. Performing on upright double bass and semi acoustic electric guitar, these two always put on a show that’s not to be missed. Enjoy the gig free of charge, just come along and grab a space, and if you like what you hear (you will) you can show your appreciation by dropping some cash in the Jar on the Bar. Doors open at 6pm, live music from 8pm.

Sat 13th: (Upper Venue) Live in our upstairs venue this Saturday night we are delighted to welcome back a fantastic young musical outfit: Phantom Bagman. Phantom Bagman are an Indie-Jazz band based in the Northeast. What started as a group of friends from university has spread into an assembly of like-minded music lovers. Fusing elements of indie-rock, bedroom pop and modern jazz aesthetics, Phantom Bagman create a sound unique to the roster of people involved, and the city that has brought them together. They’ll be accompanied by The Forgetmenots, a fresh and upcoming local girl duo from North East England. Influenced by sounds of the 60s and 80-90s alternative-indie bands. This gig will be free to enter and there’ll be a jar out for “pay as you feel” donations. From 7:30pm

This month it’s The Vaudeville Vault starring The Sapphire Whiskers, a phenomenal troupe of local burlesque dancers. This event is “tickets only”; Tickets will be just £3+bf and will go on sale at exactly 10:30am on Saturday 16th March – links to ticket sales will be available on the House of Trixie Blue Facebook page (linked above). Doors on the night open at 7pm, with the show starting at 8pm.

Fri 19th: (Upper Venue) This Friday we’re delighted to bring you our monthly blues dance class and social with Hoodoo Blues. This is an open to all experience levels blues dancing class with a highly accomplished teacher. As with blues dancing itself the class is all about taking it easy, enjoying and expressing yourself and friendly socialising. After the class has finished the evening will transition smoothly into a blues dancing social event to put into practice what you’ve learnt. Doors open at 7pm with the class running from 7:30 to 8:30 and then the night continues until 12 midnight. Entry is £10 on the door for the class and the social or £5 for just the social.


Sat 20th:
This Saturday evening we’ve got some great North East folk and americana from acoustic duo Meantime. Hailing from Edinburgh, this authentic musical pair have performed all across the North East and Scotland and even at shows in London as well as some excellent performances here in our humble bar. The duo return to treat audience members to some moving and soothing vocals, fiddle and guitar in the form of their own written works as well as some interesting twists on classic tunes. This gig will be completely free to enjoy with a Jar on the Bar for cash donations. Doors open at 6pm, live music from 8pm.


Sun 21st:
This Sunday evening we’re delighted to welcome to our stage Latvian guitarist and composer Edgars Rubenis. Edgars’ acoustic guitar work engages with the early traditions of blues and ragtime resulting in bold and contemporary music. Containing 8 exciting instrumentals, Sea Unbound is his most recent record, the second from the upcoming trilogy Pains and Boogies. Since his 2020 shift to working with acoustic guitar, Rubenis’ music has been featured on London’s Resonance FM radio, in concerts along with the Welsh guitarist Gwenifer Raymond, Kadonnut Manner from Finland, and on various festivals and tours in France, Sweden, Belgium, The Netherlands and the Baltics. This gig will be completely free to enter and enjoy and we’ll get the ol’ Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors open at 6pm, live music from 7pm.


Wed 24th:
It’s our Weekly Pub Quiz! Join our guest quizmaster, Mitch ‘The Boss’ for four rounds of brain exercise. Come top of the pile and win actual cash money! Fall just short and come in second to win a boozy treat, or failing all that, come rock bottom to earn delicious biscuits for the whole team. £1 entry per person, teams of up to 6 people, quiz starts at 8:30pm

Wed 24th: (Upper Venue) It’s our weekly blues dance class, hosted by the fantastic Hoodoo Blues. Come alone or with a partner and learn from expert tutor Melissa Davy all about the art of blues dancing. Like the music itself, blues dancing is all about expression and takin’ it easy. All experience levels welcome and the class is drop in, drop out, so don’t ever worry if you’ve not been to one before, you will be well looked after. The class will begin at 7:30pm and run for approximately an hour. If it’s your first session then its free to take part and then thereafter it’s £7.50 per class (£5 for students/concessions)


Fri 26th:
This Saturday evening we’re delighted to welcome back to our stage local jazz duo Midnight Breeze. A North East based covers duo comprising of Jenny Moore and Brian Hastings. A great evening of exciting covers is promised; something for all tastes. Songs include material by Fleetwood Mac, Canned Heat, Linda Ronstadt, Amy Winehouse, Sting, Donovan and many more. Jenny is a truly wonderful singer, flautist and keyboard player. Brian adds great vocals and is a very accomplished and sensitive guitarist. The duo , who have been really well received across the North in recent months, have a great ability to interpret and add their own unique touch to many classic songs. This gig will be free to enjoy and we’ll have the Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors at 6pm, live music from 8pm.

Fri 26th: (Upper Venue) Lion NCL events is back and this Friday night we’re being treated to a Madonna, Kylie and Britney disco night – celebrating the three queens of pop. The DJ will be spinning the hits from the trio of legendary musicians, so get your tickets and get ready for a drink and a dance. Tickets for this event are just £5+bf and are available here. Doors on the night open at 8pm.


Sat 27th:
This Saturday night we’re thrilled to host an eccentric collaboration between some of the region’s best jazz talents, tentatively named Papa G’s Troves. Featuring the likes of Papa G, Steve Chambers, Hal Lockwood, Jude Murphy and Waldemar Brankiewicz and with the ever present possibility of guest performers joining in. Expect some authentic jazz classics with a gospelly twinge. This gig will be completely free to enjoy and we’ll have the Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors on the night open at 6pm with the live music from 8pm

Sat 27th: (Upper Venue) Club 30-80’s are back! Dust off your boogie shoes and get dancing to the music you want to hear. The guys at Club 30-80 put on a regular DJ disco night for those who still want to get out and dance, but would rather avoid the manic club scene. As usual we’ll be spinning tunes aplenty, spanning ages and genres all evening. Tickets are £7+bf and can be purchased here. The event on the night starts at 7pm continuing until 11pm.


Sun 28th: 2:30pm-6pm
Prohibition Cabaret Bar and House of Trixie Blue present Dr Sketchy’s Anti Art School! Come one, come all to the fantastic Prohibition Cabaret Bar for an afternoon of drawing, drinking and live entertainment from some of House of Trixie Blue’s student performers & performers based in the North East. But what is Dr Sketchy’s? Dr Sketchy’s Anti-Art School is the world’s premier alt. drawing movement. Artists draw glamorous underground performers in an atmosphere of boozy conviviality. Starring Miss Twilight Sparkle and Xena Rose. Tickets for the event are £6+bf and are available here. Doors open at 2:30pm, event starts at 3pm and goes on until 6pm. Please bring your own paper and pencils – limited resources available at the venue. Please note for the duration of the event the main bar is closed to those without tickets – open to the public from 6pm.
