THE PROHIBITION ACT SOCIETY
Community Interest Company
Prohibition Cabaret Bar is proud to be part of several community schemes, projects and ventures working directly with other local and neighbouring businesses, local authorities and creative schemes. All performances/events on our roster are other Self Employed/Sole Traders, some are CIC or Social Enterprise funded. We work with a business initiative called ‘NE1’ which focuses on raising the profile of the city and it’s facilities, for tourism, particularly hospitality, arts and culture. We were delighted to be one of the five host venues for Newcastle Fringe Festival and are a member of the Creative Central NCL Zone, another council initiative focusing on the West End of Newcastle and the booming culture and arts spaces within the area. We’re also a main sponsor for the fabulous Newcastle Burlesque Festival, an international attraction we’re ever so proud to support and be such a big part of. Prohibition is also the chosen home for many other local arts performers, ventures, businesses and enterprises, such as: Hoodoo Blues Dance, The Actors Forge, Barely Lit Photography, House of Trixie Blue, Boozy Brushes, Meeple Perk Gaming, Scrapper Reed Productions, Drag Castle and many more, all regularly hiring our venue for their own events, complementing our own live roster.
In 2023, after a couple of very difficult years following the effects and uncertainty of Covid, The Cost of Living Crisis, Energy and Fuel Price Hikes, Brexit and War, things were looking decidedly worrying here at Prohibition HQ. We decided, since we have always been a community space regardless, that we would create our own Community Interest Company (CIC) and form our own society… and so ‘The Prohibition Act Society – CIC’ was born. The CIC will hopefully help us access vital funding which we would be otherwise not eligible to apply for and will help us provide a safe and inclusive space to ALL in our community, all year round, day or night.
This is just the beginning for The Prohibition Act Society CIC and we’re very excited to see where this takes us. If you have an event you would like to bring to the space or would like to find out more about us and what we offer please contact us at our email address below or find us on Facebook.
